About me at IHPC: I am a senior scientist in the Engineering Mechanics Department at A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC). With more than 10 years of post-PhD research experience in mechanics of materials and structures, my expertise lies in theoretical modeling, engineering simulation, and scientific computing. In an earlier role, I also served as the manager for the now-defunct Soft Matter group at IHPC, and have led various projects on smart materials.
My research: My research focuses on the mechanical behaviour of materials and structures. I have studied basic processes like damage and failure in sandwich composites, as well as deformation, viscoelasticity, and charge transfer in polymers. I have also worked on developing applications for smart actuators, artificial muscles, energy harvesters, and soft robots. Over my career, I have published >30 publications (Google Scholar: >2000 citations, h-index=19) in high-impact journals such as Science, Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Science, and Extreme Mechanics Letters. My research with collaborators has also been highlighted in popular outlets such as New Scientist and Reuters. Other work includes industry engagement with partners from the electronics and aerospace industries.
Previous experience: Prior to my current position, I was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University. I hold a PhD in mechanical engineering from NTU, where I graduated top of my cohort for my B.Eng. (Mech.) degree.
